Portland Maine Criminal Defense Attorney William Bly

Atty William Bly

Attorney William T. Bly is a graduate of Rutgers College where he majored in Political Science with a minor in U.S. History. Attorney Bly attended and graduated the University of Maine School of Law. During his time in law school, Attorney Bly focused on criminal defense. Attorney Bly worked at the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office in Portland Maine as an intern prosecutor. During that time, Attorney Bly learned the “ins and outs” of criminal prosecution in Maine. This experience provided a solid background when he graduated law school and formed a law firm with Attorney Chris A. Nielsen.

Attorney Bly’s practice is devoted exclusively to criminal defense with a heavy focus and specialization in DWI defense.  He has successfully defended persons charged with crimes in both federal and state court on a myriad of charges including aggravated felony assault, simple assault, criminal threatening with a deadly weapon, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, domestic violence assault, possession of drugs, trafficking in drugs, conspiracy to traffic in drugs, drunk driving, OUI, DUI, DWI, aggravated DWI, DWI involving serious accidents with bodily injury, high breath test DWI cases, DWI cases where a blood draw was performed and driving under the influence of drugs.

Attorney Bly is one of only a few attorneys who has received his certification as a Breath Alcohol Technician as recognized and issued by the United States Department of Transportation. In addition, Attorney Bly is qualified as both a practitioner and instructor in standardized field sobriety tests in accordance with the standards set forth by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Attorney Bly is adept at recognizing and seizing upon the myriad of mistakes law enforcement makes during their collective investigation of DWI crimes.  It is extremely rare for a police officer to know as much about standardized field sobriety testing and breath testing as Attorney Bly does.

Attorney Bly attends numerous DWI seminars each year throughout the country as well as an annual DWI Defense Seminar sponsored by the National College of DUI Defense at Harvard Law School. Recently, Attorney Bly attended and passed an extremely rigorous course on forensic blood and urine testing in DWI cases in San Diego, California.
